The project of restoring the northern and eastern historic walls of Cairo has gone through several stages of development. The first phase included the restoration of part of the northern Cairo wall from Bab al-Nasr to Baha Street, while the second phase included the restoration of another part of the northern wall between Al Nasr and al-Futuh gates to Darb al-Bazaza. The third phase also includes the restoration of a large part of the eastern wall from Al-Hussein University Hospital to the Bab Al-Wazir area, where the project was prepared to re-employ the area of the historic walls and utilize them in an optimal manner to ensure the preservation of the historic structure through permanent maintenance in a way that contributes to adding a new landmark for internal and external tourism. This project comes within the framework of preserving the architectural and archaeological heritage and historical monuments, which is part of the process of preserving the human and historical identity, which leads to the success of the sustainable development policy to preserve the archaeological areas in a manner that meets the effective tourism and economic needs and provides job opportunities for the people of the region and promotes their projects which can affect them economically and socially.
