Qaitbay Agency

The Qaitbay Agency Restoration and Adaptive Reuse project aims to transform the historic building into Egypt’s first heritage hotel. Located in the Gamaliya district on Bab al-Nasr Street, the agency was originally a commercial warehouse dating back to the Mamluk-Jaraksy era. It is considered one of the finest examples of Islamic waqf architecture from the Mamluk period. The agency consists of three floors overlooking a spacious inner courtyard. The ground floor housed commercial storage units, while the upper floors served as residences and accommodations for merchants. It was established by Sultan Al-Ashraf Abu al-Nasr Qaitbay to fund the purchase and distribution of grain to the poor in the Holy Mosques and Medina. The project began in 2015 and represents the first initiative in Egypt to repurpose a historic agency as a heritage hotel.
