The restoration and development of the Sayyida Nafisa Mosque were carried out as part of the Egyptian state’s comprehensive plan to renovate houses of worship in general, with a special focus on Historic Cairo and the revered mosques of Ahl al-Bayt. The development works form part of a wider project that spans from the Maqara Al-Oyoun wall through Al-Fustat, Sayyida Aisha, Sayyida Nafisa, Ancient Egypt, Al-Hussein, Sayyida Zainab, and Sayyida Zainab Street, up to Al-Ashraf “Baqi’ Misr.” Recognized as one of Egypt’s most important mosques and Islamic shrines, the Sayyida Nafisa Mosque underwent extensive upgrades, including the renovation of its interior, the shrine, and the surrounding areas. The project also enhanced the efficiency of the main square and all streets leading to the mosque, increased green spaces, and carried out restoration works to preserve the site’s spiritual and historical significance.
