The Central Bank Building Restoration project addressed one of Cairo’s most distinguished architectural landmarks in the heart of downtown. Khedive Ismail’s passion for modern European architecture inspired the design of Khedival Cairo, influenced by the beauty he witnessed in France and Italy. The buildings were constructed by designers and architects from various European countries, giving downtown Cairo’s streets their unique character.
Among the most notable of these buildings is the Trieste Building, designed by architect Antonio Lasciac, located on Adly Street in downtown Cairo. Built in 1911 in the Neo-Classical style, it features decorations and openings that blend Egyptian local building traditions with European Renaissance-era massing relationships. It was the first building to combine local and European architecture in Cairo and is currently known as the Central Bank Building. The restoration project preserved this unique architectural heritage while ensuring the building continues to serve its modern banking functions.
