One of the most important royal palaces in
the era of Muhammad Ali Pasha’s family, it
was built during the reign of Khedive “Ismail”
on the ruins of an old house belonging to his
father Ibrahim Pasha. The construction lasted
6 years, as work on its construction began in
1867 and was completed in late 1872. The
palace was officially opened in January 1873
at the wedding of Prince “Muhammad Tawfiq”,
the Khedive’s Crown Prince, “Ismail”, so that the
palace was later associated with the legendary
weddings and celebrations of the royal family.
The Qubba Palace is one of the largest royal
palaces in terms of area, with an area of
approximately 190 acres.
This palace was named after an ancient building
from the Mamluk era known as Al Qubba, which
was surrounded by a water lake that was a
destination for many sons of large families and
the high class at the time for fishing and hiking.
The palace gardens include a rare collection
of trees and plants dating back to the era of
Khedive Ismail.
